Daisy/Vandermark
This is a special event, not at the white house, but at: Park Avenue CDs at 7:30 pm.
Drummer/percussionist Tim Daisy and reed player Ken Vandermark have been pivotal players in the Chicago new jazz/improvisational jazz scene. Ken Vandermark’s role in invigorating a new audience to this music was a factor in his being awarded a MacArthur Genius Grant Fellowship in 1999.

Tomoko Kawahara
Traditional and contemporary Japanese Koto music
Tomoko began playing koto at 4, learning from her grandmother and mother, both renowned koto performers. She received a bachelor’s degree in Japanese music from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts. She won the national koto competition in Japan in 1995. Tomoko has performed in concert around the world, including the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Spain,Korea, Brazil, and the United States. Find her HERE or on YouTube
